Collin and Makenzie Worsham had the perfect wedding in a field behind her family’s home in Oconee County.
“Having people that I know, who know how I am, helped a lot because I wasn’t scared to tell them my opinions,” said Makenzie. She felt that it was easier to share her true thoughts throughout the planning process, which allowed her to have her dream wedding. ”It also feels a lot more special when people that you know are helping you with it.”
The only element of their wedding that was not locally sourced from Oconee County, was the dinner they catered from Four 41 South BBQ, located in Canton, Georgia. However, the son of Watkinsville Fire Station One’s assistant chief owns this pit to plate barbecue joint.
“It was some of the yummiest barbeque,” said Makenzie’s sister, Sarah Beth Andrews. “The mac and cheese just melts in your mouth.”
While the delicious food and beautiful weather made for a memorable wedding, what made the day so meaningful was how the community came together to show their love and support for these newlyweds. The couple knew that each one of their guests
would still be there for them as soon as they got back from their honeymoon.
The Hales are very family-oriented, as they have grown up and lived in Oconee County for generations. Makenzie knows that not everyone is fortunate enough to live so close to family, so she cherishes every minute she has with them.
“We all live probably within five miles of [their] dairy farm,” said Makenzie. “Before COVID, we ate at my great grandparents’ house every single Sunday for lunch and everyone that could make it went. It is so special.”
Even with everyone’s individual schedules, the Hale family still finds time to gather together.
“We had to buy an entire set of folding tables and chairs so that we could set them up in my great grandmother’s house, so we had enough seats to eat,” said Makenzie.
And now the big Hale family is even bigger. They welcomed Collin into their family with a genuine love and kindness that every spouse dreams of when marrying into a family.
