Tenure and Career Development Responsibility
Survey results show a tenure curve. Employees who have been at their workplace for six to fourteen years are slightly more likely to believe identifying professional development opportunities is their managers’ responsibility, while those who have been at the organization less or longer are more likely to believe it’s a shared responsibility.
No Degree vs. Degree-Holding
The study compared responses of employees with a degree to those without a college degree. Those with a degree were more likely to view professional development as a shared responsibility. Employees without a degree were nearly three times more likely to see professional development as the sole responsibility of the manager.
