GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES
P A G E 2 2
Ordinarily, my break periods usually involve having educational discussions with my teachers and peers. This
played a major role in developing my conversational and public speaking skills. It was also very beneficial to
my social well-being and health.
My work routine has been altered to adapt to the current circumstances and has also made me more
productive. Normally, I would arrive home from school rather late, and settle down even later. I am left with
very little time to work and this usually leads to late nights and insufficient sleep. However, in the current
situation, the transition from school to home is seamless and I’m able to begin work early allowing me to
finish work on time and get adequate rest to prepare me for the following day.
Furthermore, the effect of having a good night’s rest is eminently imperative to being as productive as
possible during the day. The number of hours of rest that the lockdown has provided is what has made me so
attentive and receptive to knowledge processed during the course of the school day that I won’t get in regular
circumstances.
Apart from the effects of the lockdown, the coronavirus outbreak has affected me in many other ways. One of
them would be my purposeful attempts to stay healthy and maintain a good immune system by taking the
necessary supplements and vitamins. This acts as a precautionary measure that could do me a lot of good if I
fall ill as it would reduce the impact it has on my body and allow me to recover quicker.
Moreover, it has taught me to eat better and healthier; taking better care of myself which could be extremely
beneficial when battling with the virus. What you choose to eat, and what you choose not to eat, are factors in
warding off many leading chronic illnesses and diseases. Food choices make a huge impact on how you feel
today, tomorrow and what the future holds in terms of promoting and maintaining good health. (HOSPICE,
2016).
Lastly, I have also learnt to be more appreciative of what I have and the ability to withstand financial turmoil.
It has also inspired me to be more charitable to the less privileged as such situations are beyond their control
and require our help to survive this pandemic.
Overall, I believe that the effect of the COVID 19 pandemic personally can be judged on by my level of
social and physical well-being in the various aspects of my daily life. On a social level, I believe that the
pandemic has limited my social interactions massively but with the advent of breakthrough
telecommunication advancements, communicating with my friends, family and teachers is as easy as it can
be!
In terms of physical health, I believe that this pandemic and lockdown period has greatly reduced my
activeness on a daily basis despite my efforts to stay fit. Being confined to a limited space for so long makes
everything within my reach making me need to move less which could lead to laziness. I believe the
pandemic has taken a great toll on my physical well-being but as it continues, I will begin to adapt and find
more ways to insert exercise into my day.
From an optimistic perspective, I believe that this lockdown’s benefits largely outweigh its disadvantages and
we should focus less on the problems it has brought us but rather think of solutions to such obstacles and how
to adapt to any circumstance regardless of the scale of the issue. Furthermore, we should find innovative ways
to be a beneficiary from any situation whether it is favourable or not.
