Kinabalu, the blurt of a loud
YES came rather naturally for
my fi rst trek!
I was super excited and
anxious at the same time ---
fi rst trek - fi rst love kind of
butterfl ies haha. I began being
disciplined about eating,
lessening alcohol (!!! And no
I’m not an alcoholic!!) and
in fi nal weeks drinking none
(you can imagine my Friday
nights and Saturday nights!!) n
making an effort to sleep on
time. And most importantly
ramping up my exercise
routine.
Then a few hurdles came
up... The COVID19 being the
biggest where our trek was
on the verge of getting itself
cancelled ,then our original
morning fl ight not fl ying
and we being moved to an
evening one which made our
resting hours before the trek
less, a sprained right wrist
which made putting weight
on the wrist a challenge
(hiking poles.. Bye bye!) ...
And it made me really sad and
philosophical... You know
how we live once and if I die
tom I wouldn’t have even
climbed kinabalu etc etc , so it was time to read all those motivational quotations and bring them
to life , so, I called Rajan to send me bookings and I’d attempt a lone trek. To my utter joy , he
was on the same thoughts n asked GG next, who also was on board. Reshma couldn’t make it.
But then from one I became three!
We set out all excited. Our group was on fi re pumped with tips, tricks and best wishes from our friends :)
I also began reading a lot n watching many vlogs which made me quite prepared for what’s to come!!
The trek is made of 4095 meters of sheer incline consisting of boulder like steps, and big rocks.
It needs good training of the mind, grit, strength training and endurance. Get those thighs,
hamstrings, ankles and knees and lungs ready. Train hard and wear a hat n sunglasses n off you
go...till it pours and then it’s a game changer.
The terrain is treacherous and merciless.
It made me respect a distance of 0.5 km
It’s non stop huge uneven rocks and a respectable incline .
