                                      Netball U14 National Squad 2019

etball is a pretty competitive sport considering many local
school girls play the sport. My coach had sent me and 2 other
Ngirls from my school for the national squad trials in 2019. We

first got into the zone team and trained for the national team with our
coaches.Last years programme had been shortened for certain reasons
so we didn’t have much time to train with the coaches who were
there to coach us to prepare us for the national squad trials. 12 girls
were selected per zone and 12 girls got selected out of the 4 zones. My
training schedule was quite packed since I was to attend both school
and national squad training during the same period of time since school competitions were on
going. I also had exams at the same time so things were getting quite tiring. I’d train in school
from 3-6pm and then rush for national squad training from 6-830pm 3 to 4 times a week. I’d
reach home pretty late after. Training was very intense because everyone was mostly on the
same level so that time period was quite draining and diffi cult to cope with. But it was a new
experience since I’d never trained with people I didn’t know. I learnt a lot through this journey,
from patience to adjusting to new circumstances where I always needed to be in top form and
had to play under a different kind of pressure where not performing was not an option. It most

definitely helped me grow as a player and I could feel myself getting better every training which
felt amazing. I met so many new people and people I aspire to play like. I worked very hard
for my spot and even though it was a place I’d never thought I’d be, all the work was worth it
!! It makes me want to train harder and harder and it makes me love the sport unconditionally
and has made me have a newfound respect for sports people!! Unfortunately, because of some
schedule clashes, the Netball Singapore organisation couldn’t organise an overseas tournament

for the U14 girls but it was definitely a good but tough experience and I would never trade
            anything for it.
