South Africa
In 2020, when the COVID pandemic hit South Africa our team was producing
nearly 50,000 servings of our new instant meal product a day. Our ministry
partners there began to feel the immediate pressure to provide meals to even more
of the poor and needy in the community. They reached out to OTB and our team
responded. We funded the expansion of the facility there and went from 50,000
meals a day to over 150,000 meals a day in just a few short months. Unfortunately
the demand continues to rise, not only in South Africa but across the African
continent. We are seeing new requests for our VitaKidz porridge almost daily.
VitaKidz Porridge is a fortified corn-based powder that can simply be mixed with
water to make a porridge or shake. Nutritional analysis shows that over 80 percent
of a child’s daily nutrient needs are met in one serving.
2021 AND BEYOND
First up is continuing to build up the capacity of our Super Food Facility to be able
to produce 500,000 portions a day. Even with that we don’t think we can meet the
growing demand. Next is to develop another facility in the northeastern part of the
country. Our goal is to be able to supply product to ministries in need all across
South Africa by the end of the year.
