NOTES ON THE STORY
When this story was originally written in 1993,
Mr John Young did still maintain his stable full
of Heavy Horses working every day, delivering
the beer made in his own brewery.
Young’s Brewery were the last large concern in
England, to use Heavy Horses regularly in
everyday work.
Unfortunately Mr Young died a few years later
and the new management decided they did not
want to continue working with the horses, they
preferred motor lorries!
Mr Young did indeed love his horses just as
much as he loved making fine beer. He used to
send his horses to “County” Shows and special
events all over England during the time he was
in charge. He considered his horses to be a
splendid advertisement for his company and of
course, the horses looked forward to going on
those extra special adventures!
