The vehicle we eventually found had to be inexpensive to fall in line with our zero budget.
It was an elderly BMC “threepenny bit cab” FG series with large horse box body with room
for two horses. There was also a useful living area with sink etc and storage/sleeping
space above the cab. I also ‘persuaded’ the said vehicle it could pull a trailer with a
carriage or cart on board! (See Dinan filming at Belvoir Castle, in book four).
The main drawback was it was painted pink, perhaps that is how we bargained a good
price. Ruth straight way set to and hand painted the entire body a more calming green and
            cream!
Being a licensed Transport Manager at this time, I was fully aware that this strange little
lorry fell short of certain Road Transport “construction and use regulations”.
Somehow it had been registered as something other than what it really was and eventually
I knew, sometime in the future, it would not be possible to use it for what we were doing at
present. Fingers crossed and in fact we managed to keep it a further four years or so.

            OFF TO SANDRINGHAM
Every year a very exclusive event is held in the grounds of the Sandringham Estate. The
Sandringham Flower Show, and for the 80th Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the
Queen Mother a special parade was to include representatives from the British Driving
Society Counties bordering Norfolk. The Driving Society has always enjoyed a close
relationship with the Royal family and we were fortunate to be invited to take part in the
            group of vehicles from Lincolnshire.
