A coach was booked to transport the unit and all their gear.
As time grew nearer my ”Factory” truck sales course had
finished and the new job begun in earnest. I was still required
to help at the Main Ridge Garage at week-ends and William
was not keen to let me have any longer off than my stipulated
week.
This created problems as the Troop were to leave on a
Saturday for nine days. The only way I could fit in with this
was to go late Sunday evening and at least have the second
week end in camp.
THE CAMP
Ruth and I arrived late on the Sunday; we travelled in a
mini-van from “the Garage”.
(Mini Van, not the best transport for 200 miles!)
Why, I can not quite recall, perhaps it was the only vehicle
with a current tax disc; more than likely it was William’s
“concern” that while a sales car was off site with me on
holiday, it could not be sold!
The mini-van was certainly not a patch on the HA Vauxhall
Viva for comfort!
John had already been there with the boys for two days and
taken responsibility for setting up all the tents in Patrol areas.
