Ruth and I decided to go and have a look; it was beautiful, far
smarter than our rough blue model. It was painted bright red
and had been treated to fourteen coats of paint.
Everything worked beautifully and we brought it home, the
price was £200 in 1968. Brian Cox who had restored the car
was a regular contributor to the “Car Mechanics” magazine and
the MG had been featured regularly during its restoration.

The first MG was moved into a place under the car port in
the back garden and Bamboozle moved out and covered with a
canvas sheet. The red MG went into daily service and was used
for all our leisure driving, she went to a car rally at North
Somercotes and we took my father on one of the rare visits
from my family, to the Carrington Park Traction Engine and
            Vintage Vehicle Rally that year.
After six months or so and one or two small “happenings”
to the paintwork we decided the car was just “too” nice for
everyday use and was at risk of sustaining more damage to its
            truly magnificent paintwork.
My sister Jane had shown a keen interest so we sold the car
to her. It is still in the family even now in 2013 as she
subsequently sold it to our cousin Giles who added it to his
            collection of true classic cars.

We had a huge amount of fun with our older model MG’s
until daughter Helen arrived and Ruth needed something that
            would take a “carry cot”.
Eventually we sold the first MG when our ECYB Transport
idea began to take shape. She was still in a roughish untidy
blue finish and one of my Firestone clients took it in exchange
for a large, new “break back” twin axle boat trailer he built for
            us.
