The journey home was uneventful. I took it steadily, to make it easy for him and we had
frequent stops.
He settled in well at Northcote with lots of horsey friends around him. When the time came
to actually pull a load though…..he was less than reluctant!
We eventually had to start right at the beginning with him. Although he had happily pulled a
tyre at Chard, he would not pull a vehicle.
It all began with long reins and chains and lots of road work. Getting used to voice
commands and the jangly noises. Then road work with a “friend” together.
Then he had false shafts at his sides and off we went again. At this time we did not have a
vehicle we could put two horses in together which would have been ideal.
Slowly but surely he took to it……...until eventually I took him to an open day about three
miles away at a local railway preservation centre.
