Ruth was never impressed with Northcote. To be honest the change from living at Ivy
House was more than dramatic, from a beautiful Georgian home with large tall ornate
plaster ceilinged spacious rooms and beautiful garden, we had come to a wreck.
The horses had better accommodation at Northcote than we did. The bedrooms were
poky with no room to walk around the bed never mind find space for wardrobes.
The kitchen was actually a lean-to garage conversion but did have fitted units and top
cupboards that our two cats rapidly took over in order to glare at each other across the
open space.
We maintained and in fact developed our wedding carriage hire business and the two
antique carriages we had managed to keep hold of were soon in frequent demand often
both out on the same day.
We had still managed to hang on to the “threepenny bit cab” FG BMC Horsebox of
dubious legality!
