This driver handbook is to be read in conjunction with the Health and Safety Policy latest
edition and the Principal Statement of the Terms and Conditions of Employment already
issued to all drivers. It does not supersede or amend any terms and conditions of
employment stated within this document. You should also be familiar with the latest version
of the Highway Code.
The handbook is for all Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) drivers operated by the Company. The
purpose of the handbook is to outline the requirements of the job, to define the standards, and
to enable drivers to comply with Company procedures and the law. Practical advice is given on
various types of vehicles and equipment that may be used, including:

Road Sweeper
The Company requires all drivers to read, understand and fully comply with procedures in
the handbook. To confirm this, drivers are required to sign and return the acknowledgement
at the back of this handbook. Failure to follow the procedures may constitute misconduct
and, in some instances, may invoke the Company’s disciplinary procedure.
Health and Safety Policy and Procedures
Upon joining AMS Ltd you will have been shown a copy of the company Health & Safety
Policy and Procedures document (latest edition). This document is to make you aware of
how to conduct your tasks in a safe and careful manner. Should you not understand any
part of the document, wish to comment on the content or offer advice on any part, please
speak with your Manager who will aid you where possible. A copy of which is also provided
at each AMS Ltd depot for you to refer to.
Should you require more advice then please speak with your Manager.
Drivers Responsibilities
All drivers are reminded that you are responsible for your vehicle and the safety of anyone
affected by your actions this includes access to third party sites. You are required to read
any relevant risk assessments relevant to either the job or vehicle you are driving and
abide by the control measures set out. If a Risk Assessment is not available then please
carry out a dynamic risk assessment and gain a signature on the disclaimer if taking your
vehicle off road. At any point if you are unsure of the safety of access, loading or unloading
then you are to STOP and call your manager for further guidance. Do not take
unnecessary risks that could create harm to others or property.
General Health and Safety Legislation
A copy of the AMS Ltd Health and Safety Policy Statement (latest version) is available at
the transport office. This statement of policy covers Health, Safety, Welfare and the
