It is essential that daily vehicle checks are carried out before working in
the yard and that the log sheet is completed’ this must include the rear
view camera, mirrors, reverse beeper and flashing beacons to be
operational as these safety items can help you reverse safely. If these
essential safety items are not working, the vehicle MUST NOT WORK IN
THE YARD. It is the duty of all drivers to report any defects to their
Foreman, Transport Controller or in their absence the Office Manager and
that it is logged on the defect report sheet on that day. You will then be
instructed on what to do to or any action to be taken to resolve the defect.

                    When reversing remember:

The driver should never reverse unless he is 100% certain there are NO
PERSONS,OTHER VEHICLES,PLANT OR OBSTRUCTIONS behind the vehicle; If
there is any doubt or you do not have a good view or a clear signal from the reverse
assistant you MUST: STOP, GET OUT AND LOOK.

Always check your mirrors and rear view camera immediately prior to and during
                    reversing and keep checking THEM!

If using an assistant, never reverse until the assistant is in position and have signaled
that in their opinion it is safe to start reversing.

Reversing assistants should never walk backwards while giving signals and ensure
the driver can see them at all times.

Reversing assistants should remain vigilant and avoid distractions.
