What are the affects of Asbestos on the body?






























                    If you suspect Asbestos is in the waste what do you need to do?

              1.   Notify your manager immediately


             2.    Isolate the waste

              3.   All PPE and isolation bags are stored in the weighbridge office

              4.   Wear a properly fitted, suitable mask (e.g. Disposable FFP3 type) An ordinary dust mask
                   will not be effective you must use the mask you have been face fit tested with.

             5.    Wear Protective disposable overalls (Type 5) always remove your overalls before removing
                   your mask.


             6.    Wear boots without laces or disposable boot covers.

              7.   Ensure that the material is kept damp to prevent dusts from entering the atmosphere.

              8.   Where possible move the material by hand (ensure you are wearing gloves) rather than
                   using a machine.

             9.    Double-bag asbestos waste and label the bags properly.

             10.  If the asbestos is too big for the bags then it must be double wrapped in plastic sheeting

             11.  Put disposable clothing items in asbestos waste bags and dispose of them properly.
