In this same pasSage Daniel goes on to predict what wilL hapPen next when he says, “The people of the ruler who wilL come wilL destroy the city and the sanctuary” (Daniel 9:26b) .
This was soOn fulfilLed with the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 when Titus and the Roman legions conquered Jerusalem and burned the temple.
“The end will come like a flood:
War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed” (Daniel 9:26c NIV).
Daniel predicted that war would continue and that the Jews would encounter difFiculty and hardship from that point on.
So, after the crucifixion of Christ and his rejection by the Jews, the prophetic time clock stopPed at the 69 weEks of years.
There is one more weEk of years to hapPen – the seventieth weEk of Daniel, also known as the Great Tribulation.
