As my term of office as President comes to an end, I would like to express my gratitude to all of you who placed your
trust in me. It has been a great ride these past two years working with such dedicated volunteers and staff. I cannot
thank you all enough for the support you have given me when tough decisions had to be made and in planning for the
future of Friends. As a leader, it is a wonderful thing to see folks step up and take on responsibilities when the need
     arises.

I also want to thank our partners in the Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association and the Bureau of Land Manage-
ment for their efforts as we all work to protect and preserve Red Rock Canyon.

     See you on the trail!

      Dear Friends Members,

As your new President, I want to lay out my overall objective and goals for the upcoming year. My overall objective
is to run Friends of Red Rock Canyon like a business, with the following goals: Make Money, Spend Money and

      Have Fun.

Make Money: Friends mission is "the preservation, protection and enrichment of Red Rock Canyon National Conser-
vation Area and the public lands of southern Nevada." This takes both financial and volunteer resources. Friends four
main income streams are license plate revenue, merchandise sales, grants and membership dues. I plan to work with
the board and the various committees to promote these programs, making our financial status stronger and help in-
      crease membership.

Spend Money: Accomplishing our mission involves working closely with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM),
the stewards of Red Rock Canyon. Friends spends money for office supplies and construction materials while pro-
viding volunteers to assist BLM with on-the-ground projects, trail maintenance and the care/feeding of the tortoises.
We also provide staffing, food and drinks for community volunteer days such as Make a Difference Day, National

Public Lands Day, Red Rock Day/Earth Day and National Trails Day. I have touched on just a few of Friends contri-
butions here; other letters will address additional programs and services we provide.

Have Fun: Our volunteers contribute the equivalent of 10 to 15 full-time employees per year. We should be proud of
this accomplishment and celebrate our success. I intend to continue to promote events such as the Annual Banquet,
Ice Cream Social and the new Dog Days of Summer to celebrate and to say "Thank You.”

With all three partners --- BLM, Friends and the Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association --- combining resources
and working together, I believe we can offer our community the educational, recreational and volunteer opportunities
that give them a sense of pride and ownership in Red Rock Canyon. I look forward to this coming year and hope you
      do as well.
