The Fall Issue of the Rock article on
the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks Na-
tional Monument had a photo that was
misidentified. The Devil Peak Shasta
Ground Sloth, pictured below, actually
resides at the Nevada State Museum in
Las Vegas. The
intact fossil was
discovered in 1990
by local naturalists,
LaRae Bringhurst
(deceased) and Hel-
en Mortensen. Thank you to Sali Under-
wood, Friends member and Curator of
Natural History — Nevada State Muse-
um, for bringing this to our attention.
Some issues of the Fall magazine had
assembly errors. We apologize if you
received one of the “special” magazines.
