A MESSAGE FROM MRS DYER

    Dear Parents,

    Another week of online learning!

Playgroup: This week the children are listening to and recognizing sounds from the environment. In
their Math activities, they are learning to recognize the numbers 0 and 1. They are also exploring the
colours of the rainbow. For their literacy work, they will be finding, drawing and writing about objects

    of different colours.

Nursery: The children are discussing their favourite games and are learning the letter sounds d, t, I and n
with their new favourite Read, Write Inc character, Freddie Fog. In Math they will explore different
   patterns.

Reception: The theme for this week is ‘Whose Shoes’. The children are looking at different types of

footwear such as boots, sandals, school shoes and talking about who they might belong to. In their

Read, Write Inc Phonics they will be revising the letter sounds r, v, j, y, z, th, sh and looking at reading
          ‘Tricky words’.

Year 1: This week the children have continued the story of ‘This is The House that Jack Built’, by Simms Taback. They

are looking at the different characters within the story and writing their own character descriptions. As the week
progresses, they will add sentences to describe the actions of their character; they will practice a
mnemonic for the word ‘because’ and use it to spell correctly in their sentences. Finally, they will
create pictures which they will use to re-tell the whole story independently.

Year 2: Year 2 children have continued their work on ‘Traditional Tales’ by creating their own story maps to re-tell
the tale of Hansel and Gretel. They are looking at the origins of the story and where Germany is on the world map.

They will then move onto the Tale ‘Why Not Me?’ by Ruth Merttens. In their grammar lessons they
will focus on subordination and coordination and use this learning to create and write extended

sentences about the ‘Why Not Me’? Characters, using the conjunctions - and, or and but. They will
continue their learning through the story ‘Victor and Millie’ which they will compare with the other
traditional tales they have studied so far. They will then innovate the ending of ‘Why Not me?’ and

write independent extended sentences with the conjunctions – if, because, that and when.

Year 3 will begin the week by watching the film ‘And Then What’ and role playing the
Fortune Teller’s in the story. They will learn how to use conjunctions to answer questions in
role. They will then move onto the myths of ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’ and ‘Isis Osirus’
they will look for the features that the two Myths have in common such as: the opening

words...’once upon a time’; the type of characters; the setting; theme and use of magic.
They will conclude the week innovating a mythical setting and character, they will write
their own character descriptions using interesting adjectives, ensuring they use correct
   punctuation.
