    Even if your homepage says "coming soon" or "under construc­
tion" for a while , just get it set up and have the company's contact
information shown. We'll get into more detail about setting up your
website in Step 7.

                                    Business E-Mail

    Set up an e-mail address that is "businesslike." Don't ever use
your personal e-mail address, especially cute and personal ones,
like martini26@searchengine .com. Once you have your company's
domain name, which is usually your company name, your web
deSigner can set up appropriate e-mail addresses using the company
name in place of the standard server name, for example, ]ulie@
AcmePrinting.com. You need to own the domain name to use it in
your e-mail address.

    If you cannot set up even a basic website yet, use an appropriate
name (like your full name) with a common server name (such as
AOL, Yahoo! , or Gmail).

    You're probably thinking: another e-mail address to check? Yes ,
you do need a separate one for your business. But just like "call
forwarding" on phones, you can forward your e-mail addresses into
one central inbox so you just have to open one account to check all
your e-mails. The one critical issue with this consolidation is that
you must go back to your business e-mail account to reply; other­
wise it will show that you sent it from your other e-mail address and
you'll confuse the sender.

    Once your business e-mail is set up, read about your program's
customization options. You will probably use two of these options
regularly: the "out of office reply" and the "signature," which appears
at the bottom of e-mails. If you are going to be out of town without
access to e-mail (or don't want to be bothered with e-mail while on
a vacation) or if you won't be able to check e-mail for more than
