He talked about new research that he published in medical journals
this year and how the lifestyle of a law enforcement officer has the
potential to lead to serious cardiovascular issues. He spoke for about
20 minutes, discussing how the current method of cardiac screening is
not sufficient for law enforcement officers today.
Dr. Stone went on to say that Sigma’s research has shown that 92% of
officers with underlying heart disease would have been missed with
traditional screening protocols (lipid panels, etc.) commonly offered
through routine physicals. His passion for medicine and helping law
enforcement officers live their best lives led Dr. Stone and his team to
pioneer a novel system of identifying high-risk individuals using
cutting-edge laboratory markers (Lp-PLA2, Oxidized LDL, etc.) usually
only offered during costly specialty-level visits. As a result, Sigma has
documented numerous high-risk interventions in sworn members of
public safety – Simply stated, he is saving lives.
After his presentation, Dr. Stone visited with several members to discuss
their health and how his company can help police officers be healthier
and live longer. His vast knowledge and ability to make the information
easy to understand were well-received.
This event was sponsored by our friends at Panasonic, who went above
and beyond to make this day special. Panasonic has been an
exceptional partner of the FBI National Academy Associates of Texas for
several years, and their sponsorship of this event was just another way
they support law enforcement.
In closing, this was also one of the few times that the FBI National
Academy Associates of Texas partnered with the Texas Police
Association. Craig Cummings hopes to hold more events like this to
bring more law enforcement officers together for some great training
and networking.
