STAR OF TEXAS AWARD NOMINATIONS

Greetings,

Our state is home to so many individuals who commit themselves to a life of service and

are willing to stand in the face of danger. The Lone Star state owes its heritage to the
many men and women who protect and serve without objection. Peace Officers,
Firefighters, and Emergency Medical First Responders deeply deserve our gratitude for
continuing to defend the values, traditions, and people of Texas.

In 2003, to honor the service and sacrifice of first responders, the State of Texas estab-
lished the Star of Texas Award. This award honors those men and women who have sus-
tained serious bodily injury or were killed in the line of duty. The Governor s Star of
Texas Award Advisory Committees are currently accepting nominations for the 2016
awards. Nominations can be submitted to TEXAS STAR AWARD. The deadline for sub-
mission is June 15, 2016.

To be eligible for the 2016 awards, the incident must have occurred between September
1, 2003 and June 15, 2016. The nominee must not have previously received a Star of
Texas Award. The awards will be presented by the Governor or his designee on a date to
be determined in September of 2016.

Your participation in identifying eligible nominees is appreciated. We encourage you to
share this information with other professionals in your field.
