Hand-dug Caissons where Bedrock was less than 12m Deep
• Caisson piles ranged in sizes from 1.6m to
3.3m in diameter – giant sized boreholes!
• Socketed into bedrock.
• Grade 35 concrete employed.
Side note:
Very large and deep hand-dug caissons are
supporting very tall buildings in Singapore.
1. The 52-storey DBS Building on Shenton Way
in Singapore supported on just 4 nos. of 7.3m
dia. caissons constructed to the depths
varying from 39.6m to 64m was amongst the
first of such.
2. The 62-storey OUB building is founded on 7
nos. of 5m to 6m dia. caissons constructed to
