Introduction

               Abstract

The National Slope Master Plan (2009) proposes to integrate landslide risk

assessment at all levels of government and industry, by establishing the risk

criteria and employing a consistent approach of risk management throughout
the country. Development guidelines, which differ according to state, are

based on slope gradient and buffer zone that do not quantify the hazard and

consequences to lives and properties. As such, an objective approach, namely
the Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) is required. This lecture intents to

update the participants on the latest findings on this method in Malaysia and

demonstrate how it could be useful for planning, design and mitigation

purposes such that it could be considered as an integral part of the country’s
slope management system or at least, as an option to the current development

               planning and control.
