6. SAMPLING IN BOREHOLES
• Sampling procedures using split – spoon sampler:
• Drill a borehole to the desired depth for sampling.
• Remove the drill tools and lower the sampler to the bottom of the hole.
• Mark the drill rod at 75 mm intervals to measure the penetration
depth.
• Drive the sampler into the soil by dropping a hammer of 63.5 kg from
a height of 760 mm.
• Withdraw the sampler and detach the shoe and coupling.
• Open the two halves of the tube and remove the soil sample.
