Seaford College Curriculum for Year 9
As demands and national policies change, we strive to review the Seaford College curriculum on a regular basis and in 2017-18, following consultation with our Academic Strategy Group and Heads of Department, we made a number of changes to extend and enhance our curriculum in Year 9, the key points of which are set out below.
All students study a core curriculum of English, Maths and Science. Due to the rigours of the newer GCSE courses, we increased the number of lessons for these core subjects to help students prepare for the greater demands and depth of understanding required at GCSE.
All students will continue to study Geography, History, Art, Design & Technology, a Modern Foreign Language and take part in an extensive co-curricular programme. The first choice available is whether to study French or Spanish. Students who find languages a particular challenge academically will still follow a modular Year 9 languages programme which is tailored to develop the key language skills students may need in the future. For keen linguists, there is the chance to select both French and Spanish.
We decided to give students some choice around their curriculum and so students are now able to select 3 additional subjects to study in Year 9. The language selected will dictate the remaining options available. Most students will select 3 options, but those who selected to study both French and Spanish will select 2 options. The subjects available are Computing, Dance, Drama, Food Technology, ICT, Latin, Music, PE and Religious Studies. To see which options are available with each language selection, please visit the Firefly page, using the link on the next page.
