Year 9 students are also part of the ‘Creative Carousel’, bespoke to the Seaford Year 9 experience. The activities allow students to access a broad range of experiences as diverse as Music Technology, Cooking and Self-defence. These activities run in blocks of 4 weeks, broaden students’ opportunities and provide a creative outlet as part of the curriculum.
We have also introduced an ‘Academic Enrichment Carousel’ which incorporates elements such as Digital Safety, Political discussions, Debating and Revision Skills. Again, these will be delivered within the Year 9 timetable throughout the year.
The options made at this point are not GCSE options, which are made in the Spring Term in Year 9. Students will not be excluded from choosing a subject at GCSE if they have not studied it during Year 9. There are some subjects which have a limited availability and will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. We encourage students to study a well-balanced curriculum which gives them a breadth of study and keeps their options wide for when it comes to choosing their GCSE options. Students who have a scholarship in a certain area are expected to study the relevant academic subject.
