Canterbury Roman Museum
If you’re a fan of all things Roman or want to immerse yourself in some fascinating history the Roman Museum should definitely be on your ‘must visit’ list.
It provides a family-friendly insight into Roman Britain in the South East of England featuring Roman relics including pottery, jewellery and hypocaust in its vast collection. Canterbury Roman Museum won the 2017 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, and is found in Butchery Lane, close to the centre of town.
The Beaney House of Art & Knowledege
Situated in Canterbury’s historic high street, this gallery, library and visitor information centre is one-of-a-kind with its award-winning facilities and diverse programme of events for all ages.
Praised for its welcoming atmosphere, the Beaney provides a range of services under one roof, uniting art, heritage, books, ideas, information and collections. Named after its benefactor, in Dr Beaney’s Last Will and Testament he left a legacy and instructions to provide an ‘Institute for Working Men’, with amenities for men who came from poor backgrounds such as his own had been.
The building plays hosts to a broad spectrum of activities such as the BFG in Pictures and the British Wildlife Photography Award Exhibition, while the library is home to a range of resources making it one of the cultural hubs of East Kent. The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge
is on the high street, opposite the ABode hotel.
