Future aspirations
Ed Gordon-Thomson
Where are you going to
university?
I’m reading Biochemistry at
Queen’s University Belfast; I’m
really pleased I got into my first
choice university, it’s a really good
course.
Where do you see yourself in
ten years?
I’ll have my Biochemistry degrees
and I’ll be working in cancer
research. I hope a cure for cancer
can be found in the future. I
also plan to take a gap year and
work for the Jubilee Sailing Trust
and Seas Your Future to help
the disadvantaged, homeless,
people with health conditions
or impairments and children
affected by cancer to regain their
confidence.
What is it that inspires you?
I’m inspired by people who bring
big change like Nelson Mandela.
They step into the unknown,
they’re risk takers, and they stand
by what they believe in even if it
makes their life difficult. Helping
people and doing the right thing
is important to me, it’s why I’m
going into the field of science. I
want to help lots of people with
my research into cancer, that’s
what really drives me to go to
university and study Biochemistry.

Where are you going after Sixth
Form?
I’m going to study Musical
Theatre. I had three offers in total
from musical theatre schools and
chose LMA London because of its
prestige and its proximity to the
West End. I have plans to work on
cruise ships to gain experience
but eventually I aspire to work in
the West End or on Broadway.

I have an offer from Durham
University to read Geography. After
university, I’d quite like to continue
with geography, but the human
side of it. I’m looking at careers along
the lines of working for the United
Nations, maybe looking at HIV or the
response to a natural disaster, that
type of thing.
