Employability
Seaford focuses on employability and in our Sixth Form, alongside their studies, students have the chance to
do a chainsaw course and a course to become a personal trainer.
Both these courses enable students to work in the school holidays and at university, as well as giving them a
qualification to fall back on in the future.
YMCA Coaching Qualifications
An exciting initiative in our Sixth Form is the YMCA Coaching qualifications that are offered at 16+.
Tom Cobb, Head of PE
Tom Cobb, says of the qualification: “The programme includes the Level 2 Fitness
Instructing in Gym Equipment Use and Level 3 Personal Training certification.
Students gain a working qualification during their time at Seaford, allowing
them to work and earn money during school holidays. These qualifications allow
students leaving Seaford to stay involved in sport, our ultimate aim. This could
be as a participant, taking on the role of a personal trainer or giving a step up
to students heading to university because they will already have practical and
theoretical understanding.
The Level 3 qualification is worth 32 UCAS points and that is another great
strength of the course. For Seafordians heading into professional careers, it will give
them a greater understanding of the programmes they are given and how their
bodies work. It also gives them another avenue if their career is curtailed.”
Jack Wadman
Alongside his studies and playing in Seaford’s rugby team, Jack trained for
‘Strongest Man’ competitions.
“I’ve loved my time at Seaford, I’ve been given the freedom and support to pursue
my interests. I did a coaching session with other students; it was a strongman
rugby session. None of my teammates had done strongman before so I showed
them the right techniques, I enjoyed it, and it was a good experience. I have set up
a professional coaching business alongside my strongman training and both this
experience and the YMCA course have set me up for a successful future.”
“Jack deserves recognition for his consistency and dedication on the path he is forging with his strongman
training. It has been a privilege to help accommodate his strongman training programme from his coaches
whilst finding ways to support his continued athletic development as a sports scholar.”
