Hello Moms,
It was a busy summer at
I hope everyone has had a great start to the 2018-2019 school year! A group of dedicated alumni attacked several
410 E John! projects on the well-loved house, and our kids returned to some highly-anticipated renovations that took place this
summer. The House Corporation has a lengthy list of goals, but an impressive number were completed over the last few
months. Please see below for the completed projects.
Along with these renovations, comes the increased expectation that the undergrads maintain the property, and they
have committed to a Community Living Plan for shared responsibility. I think we all understand that things happen when
a large number of people live under the same roof. However, House Corps has really tried to impress on the undergrads
that both their pride in Sigma Chi and in themselves as individuals is reflected in how they treat the house. The
undergrads have demonstrated leadership through high academics and the prestigious Peterson Award, and they have
established a better ability to manage themselves on a daily basis. As a result, the House Corporation, consisting of
several alumni, implemented an extensive list of improvements. They’re also in the process of creating a plan regarding
a generous monetary donation towards a scholarship fund.
You can check out improvements in person at the upcoming Dads Day Weekend! This is always a fun event for dads
and sons, but moms often join, too This year, we are thinking of raffling off a Yeti cooler to raise some more money
for things the boys want at the house. Who doesn’t like a Yeti, right? If anyone is interested in helping, please let me
know.
Looking ahead, please save the date for the Sigma Chi Moms’ Club Luncheon in February. The purpose is to welcome
new moms and also to plan for Moms Weekend in April where we do the majority of our fundraising. Last year, it was
the first year for most of the board members, so we pretty much followed events from past years. This year, we may
mix it up a bit! We welcome anyone to stay after the luncheon if you’d like to help plan and/or have suggestions for the
April weekend.
Here's how we’ve used last year’s money over the past few months:
- professional, metal poles and nets for the outdoor volleyball court
- rods and drapes for the tv room and dining room
- eight end tables to complete the blue room furniture that House Corps bought
- new rods and shower curtains for all showers in the remodeled bathrooms
