Kecil Orangutan turns 5
The amazing Kecil Orangutan turned 5 years old in
January and was treated to bamboo, banana leaves, and
orange gourds shaped like balloons in Tropic World: Asia.
Kecil arrived at Brookfield Zoo at 6 months old after
his biological mother at another accredited zoo did not
provide him with proper care. Maggie Orangutan, an
experienced foster mother, gave Kecil the care and attention
he needed until she passed away at 54. In 2016, Brookfield
Zoo’s 35-year-old Sophia took on the role of Kecil’s third
foster mother. She has provided him—and her biological
daughter, Kekasih—with protection and comfort.
