Perspective
As we continue to celebrate the
100th anniversary of the land donation
By Stuart D. Strahl, Ph.D. by Edith Rockefeller McCormick—a gift
President & CEO that paved the way for the building of
the world-renowned Brookfield Zoo—we are equally excited
by our contributions to the future of conservation leadership.
From our innovative play programs for preschoolers to our
teen-scholar conferences and college internships, we provide a
wide range of informal science-learning opportunities, a constant
in our organization’s history from the start. In this issue, you can
read about the impact of our award-winning internship program
on young college-age conservation leaders in their own words
(on pages 24-28).
The Chicago Zoological Society is committed to creating
careers in the fields of zoology and conservation by mentoring
students and providing them with learning opportunities based
on observation and experience. We have a unique, long-standing
internship program that offers students pursuing careers in animal
care and other areas the chance to work side by side with professional
animal-care specialists. Our internship program has evolved to
include internships and research opportunities with hands-on,
relevant training in a diverse setting.
As we look back on our 2019 accomplishments, don’t forget
to close out the year with us during our festive winter events at
Brookfield Zoo. Thank you for supporting Brookfield Zoo and
I hope to see you in December, once again, at the 38th annual
Holiday Magic!
