Did you know that dozens of artistic
works—many by internationally
renowned artists—are scattered
throughout the Zoo?
Brookfield Zoo
for ART LOVERS
M
ost people come to Brookfield Zoo to see our sensational
animals. But the Zoo offers much more. For example, it is
a certified arboretum planted with more than 100 species
of trees and shrubs from all over the world. The Zoo is also a muse-
um and sculpture garden that displays fine art, much of it from
world-famous artists.
The artwork adds to the Zoo’s beauty, but also enriches our
visitors’ experience. Animals of stone and bronze spark the
imaginations of children who clamber on top of them. They provide
guests—especially those who have disabilities—with an intimate
way to experience the animals by touch. Many of our bronze statues
have areas polished to a shine by the millions of hands that have
explored and caressed them over the years.
Furthermore, art supports the Chicago Zoological Society's
conservation mission. By eliciting caring and empathy for the plight
of endangered wildlife, it strengthens our resolve to save them.
