PREDICTING STRATEGY IN READING
1. What is predicting in reading?
Predicting is an important reading strategy. It allows students to
use information from the text, such as titles, headings, pictures and
diagrams to anticipate what will happen in the story. When a
student makes a prediction he or she is making a guess about what
is going to happen next in a story or what a character is going to do
or think, An effective reader will base their prediction on clues
from the story and his or her own experiences. Most typical
students naturally make predictions as they read. Predictions are
based on "what happens next" which requires a student to follow a
logical sequence of events.
