Skinnerian Principles
Skinner’s Attitude Toward Theory. Skinner accepted operationism but rejected the
theoretical aspects of logical positivism. He was content to manipulate
environmental events (such as reinforcement contingencies) and note the effects
of these manipulations on behavior, believing that this functional analysis is all
that is necessary. For this reason, Skinner’s approach is sometimes referred to as a
descriptive behaviorism.
