Ata Tara is an emerging artist whose creative journey spans over 23 years
of immersive education, extensive research, dedicated teaching, and
practical industry experience within the realms of architecture, landscape
architecture, and landscape planning. His artistic expression finds its roots in

a tapestry of scientific exploration, including visual resource management,
Geographic Information Systems )GIS), and cartography, all interwoven
with his design research in landscape architecture. His work is driven by
a commitment to addressing critical issues such as climate change and the
decline of biodiversity. Currently, Ata serves as a lecturer in Landscape
Architecture at RMIT University, where he passionately imparts his
knowledge and expertise to students across various academic levels, from
Bachelor’s and Master’s to PhD programs. His pedagogical engagement
mirrors his artistic vision, emphasizing the interconnectedness of culture,

landscape, and sustainability. Ata’s artistic endeavours are a call
At the core of Ata’s artistic narrative is a profound appreciation for to action, urging us to engage with
the intricate relationship between Australian Indigenous cultures and cultural layers in diverse locations

Drawing inspiration from his own Persian heritage, Ata also explores the an a wealth of research experience
spiritual significance of fire as an element that unites humanity across in GeoDesign and participatory
cultures and time. He employs fire as a design technique to unveil the design and planning, particularly

multi-layered complexity of landscapes, delving deep into the inherent in the dynamic Asia-Pacific region,
ambiguity and profound meaning they hold. Ata is now dedicated to extending
In his place-based and cultural-based artistic journey, Ata employs his efforts to participatory art,
advanced scientific mapping techniques, visualization methods, and data fostering a broader engagement
encoding within GIS to scrutinize landscapes through various lenses. He with communities worldwide.
harnesses the power of overlay techniques as a fundamental approach in His vision is not only artistic
design disciplines, by using fire to reveal the hidden stories and cultural but transformative, calling on
layers that define diverse landscapes. His work transcends the boundaries communities and individuals to be
of traditional art, encompassing spatial qualities and design decisions stewards of our environment and

that actively contribute to addressing the pressing challenges of climate cultural values.
