Parent – Child Assets

How do I Enter a Child Asset?

        Overview

University research buildings act as the parent asset of all related assets within the facility. These assets are
termed as child assets. This allows for location based reporting of assets within a specific building. When new
child assets are added to a building, they must be associated with the parent asset. A child asset is added to an
existing parent asset first. Then you can perform a search for all child assets associated with a given parent.
Typically, the parent asset is independent of the child assets with regard to profile or category however, when
searching for the parent, all the child assets can be found.

Leased assets and maintenance contracts are also linked through the parent/child asset role. For additional
information please refer to the How do I Enter a Leased Asset with Maintenance Contracts? job aid.
