Preferred street addressing:
123 Clifton Road NE, Suite 456
No comma between Road and NE. Suite number on same line as street if possible.
New feature: The form allows for hard returns in the Title, Affiliations, and Address
fields.
Avoid abbreviations: “Road” rather than RD, Rd., or other shortcut;
“Senior” rather than “Sr.”
New feature: Certain common style errors are auto-corrected, such as common
abbreviations and some terminology. However, if there is a question about how to
correctly phrase something, seek a 2nd opinion, or call us. We’re happy to assist you.
Do not use the ampersand sign (“&”). Spell out “and” instead.
Phone numbers: use only periods as separators, no dashes or parentheses. The form
requires the format to be 000.000.0000.
Avoid “orphaned” words; i.e., one word left on a line by itself. Use a hard return to
create a line break. Example:
(bad) (better)
Office of Communications and Office of Communications
Marketing and Marketing
Web addresses: Since it is no longer necessary for users to enter “http://” in modern
browsers, the university has dropped its inclusion. Many sites also no longer require
“www.” Also, final slashes and “/index.html” are not required. These can help in saving
space.
Example: www.emory.edu or emory.edu is sufficient
