Hunting training with Sloughis means first of all to achieve a better attention of the
Sloughi towards its human. Distance training, as recommended by Peter Müller, is a good
starting point. In distance training, the Sloughi is set down, which means that he should
stay in one place, his human walks around him close to him at first and increases this
distance more and more, until in the end a distance of about 200m is reached between
Sloughi and human. The Sloughi is only allowed to come after being asked to do so.

This training is not intended to train the Sloughi as a hunting assistant. The local ideas of
what a hunting dog has to achieve do not suit the Sloughi and the way of dealing with
hunting dogs here would spoil the Sloughi.

Hunting training basically leads to understanding a walk together of Sloughi and human

as a “joint hunt”. For the Sloughi, this means being allowed to have many impressions, i.e.
to have a mental workout in the field. For the human, however, it means having a
controlled situation during the walk without a leash.

Now, different Sloughi people emphasise that this might work with some Sloughis, like
Amaya, for example. But there would also be other Sloughis and they would be
uncontrollable and away for hours ...
