30 unrelated Algerian sighthounds (21 males and 9 females), between the age of three and
five years old, all in perfect health and presumed purebred were measured. All owners
agreed to the study.
The dogs were measured for height at withers (HW), height at rump (HR), head length
(HL), muzzle length (ML), ears length (EL), neck length (NL), body length (BL), tail length
(TL), muzzle circumference (MC), head circumference (HC), neck circumference (NC),
chest circumference (CC), waist circumference (WtC), thigh circumference (TC), forearm
circumference (FC), wrist circumference (WC).
Indices calculated were index of format (IOF), index of massiveness (IOM), index of bone
(IOB), index of head/neck (INH), index of muzzle/head (IMH), index of withers/rump
(IWR)
An ordinary measuring tape was used, the dogs being afraid of the measuring board.
