Skye’s Story
Skye’s S tory
My name is Skye Takarangi and I am 16 years
old and I have been showing since I was 7 years
old. I first started showing in puppy walks and
junior handling at bulldog club shows till I was
11. At the age 11 our first show dog Lily had a
litter of 8 pups we kept three puppies from that
litter, Gracey, Bless and Gordy. Gracey was my
dog to show and Bless was for my Dad to show.
I didn’t show Gracey till she was 14 months
old because I wanted to make sure she was
ready for the show ring. Our first show was at
Leeds championship show which was also a
double show for the Bulldog breed because we
also had a bulldog breed champ show. I was
in yearling bitch with 10 entries and I won first with 10 entries with my Dad. In the unbeaten
place. In the afternoon I went on to show in bitch lineup, I won my first reserve CC with
yearling bitch in the Sheffield and Leodensian Gracey under breed specialist Ann van den
bulldog clubs championship show and again Heuvel.
won first out of a class of 14 entries.
I also gained my studbook and junior warrant
After that I went on to win 10 more firsts at certificate in the mail a few weeks later. Since
champ shows that summer. Later that year at then I have had the opportunity to show in the
Driffield champ show I was showing Gracey Bulldog of the Year twice and have won two
in post graduate bitch in a class of 7 entries more reserve CCs. I also showed my other dog
and she won first. I was happy to win this class Glory who has been to CRUFTS and placed
because this win would give Gracey her last third in a class of 21 and now has had a litter of
three points for her junior warrant. Later that day puppies.
her sister Bless also won her class limit bitch
I am currently on the committee of Bath and
Western bulldog club; I really enjoy helping
and working at the shows to make the show
successful. In 2017 my Dad and I went to the
World Dog show in Germany it was a great
experience I showed Kora who is now a UK
Champion
All our bulldogs are health tested which you can
see on bulldog breed council. My ambition in
bulldogs is to run my own kennels and be able
to judge and produce more champions at a high
level and to carry on the legacy of the Ruakuri
kennels.
