I was very lucky when l bought my first Weimar
in 1979.
I didn’t know anyone in Weimaraners, in fact l
had only seen one Weimaraner, belonging to
a Vet working in a practice in South London
where l worked for about 10 months early in
my veterinary career. The dog made a big
impression on me and on returning to Yorkshire
l knew that the dog l would love to own was a
Weimar. l was given Denise Mosey’s phone
number, and she had a litter and there was
a bitch pup available. The litter was a repeat
mating of a very successful breeding with the Mr
and Mrs George’s American import Ch Kamsou
Moonraker v Bismark and Sh Ch Handsome
Hirondelle. This earlier litter had produced
at least 3 show Champions. At the time l had
no interest in showing, so the successful
show career of the previous litter was of no
importance to me. However, l made the mistake
of going to Crufts as a spectator later that year
to see a few more Weimaraners. l enjoyed the
day and thought my pup, Denmo Raspberry

Highball, to my uneducated eye compared
favourably to the dogs being shown. I then
decided that l would like to have a go at showing
so l jumped in at the deep end and entered her
at Leeds Champ Show 1980. l wasn’t at all sure
what l was doing and hoped l wouldn’t make a
complete fool of myself. Much to my delight and
surprise l won the class, a voucher for Pedigree
Chum and was told that this qualified my pup
for Crufts and won a rosette. I was well and truly
hooked!
l said l was lucky with my first Weimar because
she went on to become a Show Champion
and the start of my Sireva Kennel. Since then
l believe that l have bred or owned 28 Show
Champions and 11 Champions a record that l
am very proud of as being the only kennel to
haves had as many full champions.
My main priorities when breeding, as 99% of
my pups go as family pets, is to produce good
examples of the breed that are healthy dogs of
good temperament and any success in the show
