T
he Weimaraner Club of Great Britain
came formally into being on November
17th 1953 when it was granted title by the
Kennel Club. At that time there were a
small number of very keen enthusiasts led
by Major Bob Petty who had imported the first
Weimaraners into the United Kingdom one year
earlier. He organised the inaugural meeting at
Crufts in 1953 and gathered the 25 members
needed to enable the Club to be registered
with the Kennel Club. He became the Club’s
first Secretary. The first Chairman was Major
General M Lea Cox and the treasurer was Mrs
E Petty.

Today many people bemoan the fact that
Weimaraners appear in adverts on TV and in
magazines, fuelling the demand for the dog. Thor, The first weimaraner in the police
But this is not new – the Weimaraner was force with handler Paul Dodd.
