In compulsive mode, hard work can become workaholism. When buried in work, Shadow Threes neglect family and health and free time, or become anxious. In Shadow, Threes cut corners, sell out, take advantage of opportunity, ignore products, bend or make up their own rules, or develop situational ethics. It’s all about getting things done and they’ll worry later if they are able to deliver on it.
In Best Self, Threes’ self-image is successful, impressive, and oozes confidence. In Shadow, Threes can be overly motivated to please, overly image conscious, and try too hard to impress. They will become too much about themselves or accomplishments or about people related to them like their children. They also may embellish accomplishments.
When in Shadow, Threes become attached to this image as the evidence of achievement. Threes make grandiose claims, become overconfident, overvalue ability, become vain, become status conscious, and take on deceptive tactics so they won’t look bad.

In Best Self, Threes are personable, charismatic, social, charming people who are good communicators with great networks and an“everybody is my friend” mantra. They do not like making enemies. When in Shadow that friendly, personable style does not look the same. PRINT Threes can become utilitarian in relationships and engage in “what’s in it for me” relationships. It becomes difficult to get close to them and their professional friendliness keeps them at a distance. They don’t want you to get to know the real person since the real person is vulnerable and has flaws. It therefore may be challenging for others to build deep connections with them. They are friendly and approachable, but they do not reveal their true self or let you get very close to them in a more intimate way.
