§ When talking about something that is interesting to me, tune in to other’s reactions to see if they are equally captivated by the topic. Read body language and shorten the message before they drift off.
§ Work on being responsive to others’ requests, even when they aren’t related to what I am currently focused on. Promptly return e-mails and phone calls even when I am busy or involved with something important.
§ Work through disagreement to build stronger relationships rather than withdrawing. Try to stay engaged and not detach from discussions that seem irrelevant or uninteresting.
§ Force myself to take action, even if I feel I don’t have enough information. Work through the discomfort of not having as much time as I would like.

HOW OTHERS CAN HELP PRINT® 5 BE IN BEST SELF
§ Plan ahead so you don’t give them things to do last minute and then require super quick turnaround. Use rational and logical arguments to put your points across, not emotional appeals.
§ Give them their independence to get things done and a reasonable amount of privacy. Don’t over manage them. Be brief with directions and feedback.
§ Provide them a forum to share their visions, insights, concepts, and analyses. Don’t shut them down but don’t give them unlimited time to pontificate.
§ Try to keep them engaged in conversations on topics that are not particularly interesting or relevant to them by telling them you want their advice and opinions.
§ Give them time to process information and think things through. Don’t require on the spot answers. Demonstrate patience but also establish mutually agreeable, concrete deadlines when action needs to be taken.
§ Doyourhomeworkbeforebringingsomethingtothem. When challenging them, come prepared with a cogent argument and be ready for debate.
