MOUNTAIN PLAYGROUND
With close to 70,000 acres of public land and
over 200 miles of developed biking and hiking
trails, Allegany County is an outdoor enthusiast’s
dream. Hop on a trailhead to explore the
interna onally recognized trail systems, the
Great Allegheny Passage and the C&O Canal
Towpath, which form a con nuous 333.5 mile,
car free trail system from Pi sburgh, PA, to
Washington, DC, and meet right here in the
heart of downtown Cumberland, MD. Forming
the en re Southern border for the county, the
Potomac River water trail takes you on a
leisurely river expedi on with stunning scenery.
Our four state parks and forests o er abundant
opportuni es for hiking, mountain biking,
camping, and connec on to nature. Or, paddle
on our very own 243 acre Lake Habeeb, known
for having the “bluest water in the state.” If
