he 123-year-old Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Girls (GVHSSG, estb.1893), Nadakkavu is the
T first school revamped by the Faizal & Shabana Foundation under its PRISM project initiated by A. Pradeep Kumar,
member of the legislative assembly (MLA), as a public-private partnership (PPP) project with the Kerala state gov-
ernment. The prime objective of PRISM is to improve infrastructure and teaching-learning standards in government
schools across Kerala (pop.35 million).

Within five years of introduction of PRISM, GVHSSG has been transformed from a dilapidated state government school
experiencing continuous students flight, into the country’s showpiece class I-XII government school with an aggre-
gate enrolment of 2,600 girl children mentored by 180 teachers and distinguished by its excellent infrastructure,
Smart classrooms and sports facilities. In the latest EducationWorld India School Rankings 2019-20, GVHSSG is ranked
#2 among India’s Top 10 government day schools.

ABOVE & RIGHT Faizal & Shabana Foundation has invested
Rs.17.5 crore in GVHSSG over the past five years to rebuild
infrastructure, initiate high-quality teacher training
programmes and improve student learning outcomes. The
school’s 3.42 acre campus houses four state-of-the-art science
and computer science laboratories, a library with 8,000 print
volumes, a state-of-the-art kitchen, and 320-seats dining room.
