HARI MOHAN GUPTA
Chairman, Jagran Social Welfare Society
I ndustrialist and publisher and resident editor of the Hindi language Dainik Jagran (Bhopal
edition) — reportedly the world’s largest selling daily (circulation: 75 million) — Hari Mo-
han Gupta is also chairman of the Jagran Social Welfare Society (JSW Society, estb.1997). Over the
past quarter century, the society has promoted four premier Delhi Public School (DPS) schools —
the first franchised schools of the Delhi-based DPS Society in the Hindi heartland state of Madhya
Pradesh (pop. 73 million) — three free-of-charge Shiksha Kendra schools and the state-of-the-art
Jagran Lakecity University, Bhopal. Together these institutions provide high-quality K-12 and higher
education to 14,000 students statewide.
Affiliated with the Delhi-based CBSE, the four DPS schools — DPS, Bhopal (estb.2000); DPS, Indore
(2003); DPS, Kolar Road, Bhopal (2013) and DPS, Rau, Indore (2019) — have established excellent
reputation for providing contemporary academic, sports and co-curricular education rooted in In-
dian traditions and values. In the latest EducationWorld India School Rankings 2019-20, DPS, Indore
and DPS, Kolar Road are ranked among the Top 3 co-ed day schools in their cities. Moreover, the
multi-disciplinary Jagran Lakecity University (JLU, estb.2013) has been adjudged ‘University of the
Year’ by the Madhya Pradesh government for four consecutive years (2015-2018).
“In the late 1990s, when the winds of liberalisation were beginning to blow across the country, I be-
came aware of the shortage of high-quality day schools in Madhya Pradesh, even in the commercial
hubs of Bhopal and Indore. The JSW Society was promoted in 1997 with the objective of providing
internationally benchmarked schooling to children of Madhya Pradesh. Our DPS Bhopal was the
first school of the globally renowned DPS Society in the state. Now we have four DPS schools and
the world-class Jagran Lakecity University providing modern education in the English medium to
14,000 students in Madhya Pradesh,” says Gupta.
