henraj Roychand started his career as a salesman earning a modest Rs.50 per
C month at a Bombay Dyeing showroom. Over the next few years he transformed
into the #1 distributor of a textiles brand of Reliance Industries Ltd, in peninsular India.
However, in 1990, inspired by educationist-savant Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) and
Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani (1932-2002), Roychand sold his company and as-
sets to promote Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC), Bangalore followed by
the class IV-XII Jain International Residential School (JIRS), Jain Heritage Schools, Jain
Public Schools and Jain Toddlers.
Moreover, drawing lessons from his own transformation from a textiles salesman to
one of India’s most successful edupreneurs, Dr. Roychand has emerged as a champion
of entrepreneurship education. To revive ancient India’s spirit of free enterprise he has
established the Chenraj Roychand Center for Entrepreneurship at the Jain (Deemed-
to-be University). In addition, as an angel investor, Roychand has also mentored 3,000 JGI Snapshot
aspiring entrepreneurs and seed funded 50 small scale business enterprises which em-
ploy over 2,000 people.
“During my years as a travelling salesman in numerous cities and towns across the Estb: 1990
country, I encountered people of humble origin who had risen to high positions in in- Institutions: 77

prompted me to switch from business capitalism to the field of human capital devel- Campuses: 64
opment and promote Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College in 1990. Looking back over
the past 20 years I am pleased that the number of JGI institutions has grown to 77 and Students: 72,000
